Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine

by Andrew Greenberg, LAc. MSAc All machines, all systems—unless energy is added—eventually wear down and fall apart, whether it’s your car, your cell phone, your toaster, the company you work for, or you. Unless energy is added, chaos takes over.  Acupuncture, is the source of energy to your body.  I actually am offering you, the patient, a gift.  The gift of life's energy, the gift of feeling better, the gift of reducing your pain, the gift of healing. Acupuncture, or more generally, Chinese Medicine, is based on a simple principle, "Illness cannot live where there is good Qi".  Qi, according to ancient Chinese, is the energy that sustains us all.  Good Qi comes and occupies the body, thus protecting the body from illness moving in.  Chinese Medicine makes room for the Qi to move in.  The core of Chinese Medicine is when there is flow you have health, if no flow, you have pain and illness. Acupuncture has become as commonplace in Boston as in Beijing.  People assume that current Western medicine has a unique handle on the Truth and that all else is superstition.  But many other people are looking for alternatives to the pill pushing Dr's of America.

“What SUP?” BBP Re-donates Funds to Texas Estuary Programs

Mary Judge, BBP Program Assistant, took the photo (right) of Jim Vasslides, BBP Program Scientist, as he paddled “SUP the River.” Karen Walzer, BBP Program Outreach Coordinator, snapped the pic (below) of a group of paddlers launching out into the “deep.” The Greater Toms River Chamber of Commerce hosted its 2nd Annual SUP the River 2017 Fundraiser on Sept 16 at the Toms River Country Club. A portion of the proceeds was originally earmarked to benefit the BBP. However, due to the catastrophic damages suffered by coastal Texas after Hurricane Harvey, BBP opted to forward these funds on to its sister National Estuary Programs, with $500 going to the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program (Corpus Christi) and $500 to the Galveston Bay Estuary Program (Houston) to help with the massive recovery efforts.  (Estuary programs also generously contributed to BBP post-Hurricane Sandy.) “For the second year in a row, this event was blessed by great weather and an incredible turnout. What a fantastic way to kick-off National Estuaries Week on the Toms River, one of the major tributaries to the Barnegat Bay. Thanks to the Greater Toms River Chamber of Commerce for organizing such a great event. We appreciate the generous donation by BHI

Veteran’s Family is Keeping the Memory of the USS Randolph Alive in 2017

By Noelle Carino September 7, 2017 Toms River, NJ – Gary Santos of Lindenhurst, NY visited Toms River, NJ earlier this year.  While he was here, he visited the site of the USS Randolph’s anchor near Huddy Park.  If you have been to the site, you will remember that the anchor is surrounded by personalized pavers - an initiative of the Greater Toms River Chamber of Commerce decades earlier.  Mr. Santos and his family wanted one of those pavers for a very special reason.  When he reached out to Craig Ambrosio, Director of Toms River Parks, Buildings, and Grounds, for more information about securing one, Craig connected him with the Chamber.     The request was simple:  Mr. Santos wanted a personalized paver.  The meaning was deep:  his recently deceased father had served on the USS Randolph.      The challenge was that the downtown paver project had been completed years and years earlier, and it was not clear how anyone could resurrect it - if only for the Santos family.   The request kicked-off months of collaboration between the Township and the Chamber to see that a man’s wish to honor his father’s memory became a reality. The USS

Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey

Is there anything more challenging, both physically and emotionally then caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or other form of dementia?  The mission of the CVCJ Alzheimer’s Respite Care Program (ARCP) is to ease the burden and enhance the quality of life for the family member struggling with this overwhelming journey. This is accomplished through a program of training and matching volunteers with families in need. Our Volunteers provide weekly visits up to 3 hour. This time is spent engaging the individual with dementia so that the family member can have some time for themselves. This time also enables them to provide relief to the caregiver in the form of socialization, education, resources and emotional support. A recent match brought us to Charlie and Louise (who is calls his Angel) have been married over 50 years. Louise is in the later stage of Alzheimer’s disease and is now confined to a bed. Charlie is dedicated to her and is determined to never leave her alone for a minute.  Having our volunteer, Mary, spend time with Louise means that Charlie can make plans to visit with some of his buddies once a week and enjoy some time away from

The Gift of Memories Makes Great Holiday Gifts

Fall is here and soon the holidays will be right around the corner before you know it. If you want a hint as to the best kind a gift to give this season, consider the gift of cherished memories. You’ve probably been putting off transferring those old movies, videos and photos stored in the closet. They have to be transferred sooner or later or else those memories will be lost forever. Then there are those old wedding and family portraits that might need a little repair or to be reproduced to share with other family members. What about sharing multiple copies of that family heirloom photo or video with the family so that it can be enjoyed by the next generation? One of the problems that some people encounter when they want to display multiple photos is how to frame and display them. In the past, an expensive custom made matt with multiple openings or those cheesy readymade multi-opening frames where the only choice. Now, by using digital technology, photo collages can be created in a single photograph for you. There are so many things that can be done today using digital imaging including removing backgrounds, colorization and combining images.
