Get to know our #WeAreTR Award Recipient CAREGIVER VOLUNTEERS OF CENTRAL JERSEY “Caring For People by People Who Care” Barbara Devlin, and her husband Jack, returned home to Toms River after visiting her father in West Virginia.   Barbara was full of enthusiasm about an interfaith  volunteer program in her father’s community that helped those who could no longer drive by taking them to medical appointments, shopping for their groceries, visiting the lonely and providing respite for the family caregiver. They approached Monsignor Ladzinski at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Toms River with this interfaith concept.  He recognized the needs in our community to help the elderly homebound and was anxious to start a program here in Ocean County.  In January, 1993, Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey opened their first office in Beachwood. A quarter century later, we now have 60 interfaith congregations in our coalition and over 1,200 volunteers in 23 municipalities of Ocean County.  In March, 2016 our agency opened  in Monmouth County. We now serve 13 municipalities  with more than 120 volunteers, and we continue to grow.  Collectively, these volunteers reach out their hands and help more than 2,000 elderly, disabled, veterans, lonely and homebound, and provide

Date:                August 31, 2017 For:                 IMMEDIATE RELEASE Re:                   SUP the River Fundraiser proceeds re-donated by the Barnegat Bay Partnership to                           the Texas National Estuary Programs Contact:          Noelle Carino Greater Toms River Chamber of Commerce 732-349-0220 noelle@tomsriverchamber.com   The Greater Toms River Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 2nd Annual SUP the River 2017 fundraiser on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at the Toms River Country Club.  A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Barnegat Bay Partnership* at Ocean County College.   However, due to the catastrophic damages suffered by coastal Texas after Hurricane Harvey, with the enthusiastic approval of the donor (BHI Insurance, Toms River), the Barnegat Bay Partnership has opted to forward these funds on to its sister National Estuary Programs, the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program (Corpus Christi, TX) and Galveston Bay Estuary Program (Houston, TX) to help with the massive recovery efforts in their area.  (Estuary Programs throughout the United States also generously contributed funds to the Barnegat Bay Partnership post-Hurricane Sandy.)   So grab your paddleboard and come out to support the Greater Toms River Chamber of

  Ocean Mental Health Services, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit, mental health agency, established in 1959, serving all of Ocean County, NJ.  In 2015 we received the WAVE award as the’ Non-Profit Business of the Year’ by the Greater Toms River Chamber of Commerce.  With 34 programs and 14 various locations throughout Ocean County, Ocean Mental Health Services, Inc. provided 1.1 million service encounters, 50,685 meals to consumers, and served 8,862 adults, children and families with mental illness in fiscal year 2016.   The Ocean Mental Health Services' mission is to offer a comprehensive continuum of mental health services that promotes full participation in community life.  We live this mission every day as we address the mental health needs of the residents of Ocean County.  Our wide variety of services provides assistance to people throughout the mental healthcare continuum.  We provide the support and guidance needed as people dedicate themselves to mental health wellness and recovery.  We believe together we can build a better tomorrow. Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey

Is there anything more challenging, both physically and emotionally then caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or other form of dementia?  The mission of the CVCJ Alzheimer’s Respite Care Program (ARCP) is to ease the burden and enhance the quality of life for the family member struggling with this overwhelming journey. This is accomplished through a program of training and matching volunteers with families in need. Our Volunteers provide weekly visits up to 3 hour. This time is spent engaging the individual with dementia so that the family member can have some time for themselves. This time also enables them to provide relief to the caregiver in the form of socialization, education, resources and emotional support. A recent match brought us to Charlie and Louise (who is calls his Angel) have been married over 50 years. Louise is in the later stage of Alzheimer’s disease and is now confined to a bed. Charlie is dedicated to her and is determined to never leave her alone for a minute.  Having our volunteer, Mary, spend time with Louise means that Charlie can make plans to visit with some of his buddies once a week and enjoy some time away from

Get the Squeeze on Lemonade Day 2016

Last year, we celebrated our inaugural edition of Lemonade Day Toms River.  Over 250 kids from our community developed, designed, built, and ran a lemonade stand on a beautiful July day.  In the process, they learned the best practices of business - to save, spend, and share. This year, we want to double the number of kids who participate in our 2nd annual Lemonade Day Toms River on Saturday, July 9th. In an effort to enhance the 2016 experience, Townsquare Media, along with Lemonade Day Toms River sponsors, are planning an information session at the Pine Belt Arena on Saturday, April 9th from 8:30-11am. Here’s the premise - no matter who you are: You are a parent of a child who would like more information about Lemonade Day Toms River 2016 - join us!  It’s free and there will be community businesses and nonprofits represented around the room.  The Lemonhead will be there for photo ops and backpacks will be available for pick-up (pick yours up if you have already registered for this July’s Lemonade Day OR register on-site on Saturday, April 9th).  And perhaps best of all, you can learn more about the Engage Toms River $10,000 Lemonade Day
